World Peace and the Positive Peace Index

World Peace is a state of complete and permanent peace between nations or regions. It involves the elimination of violence, but it can also encompass the absence of hatred, the lack of prejudice and the equality of human beings. However, it will only be achieved through a collaborative, coordinated effort of all nations. Moreover, it will require a global community that has the ability to transcend differences of race, ideology and culture.

For many years, the world has experienced conflict and violence. Over one million people have been killed in war during the first twenty years of this century. Wars continue to erupt in Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia and Myanmar, and other conflicts are ongoing in Nigeria, Ethiopia and Syria. As a result, the UN must play an increasingly important role in securing international order.

The 9th World Peace Forum has focused on the world's most significant challenges. The forum has become a powerful force in advancing world peace. One of its most influential contributors is Chinese President Xi Jinping. He has spoken about the importance of maintaining world peace, and the necessity of protecting it.

Positive Peace is a holistic framework that examines eight different factors that contribute to the development of peaceful societies. These factors include a country's trust in others, the level of inequality, the prevalence of violence, and the degree of intercultural dialogue. Using these indicators, the Positive Peace Index measures societal resilience in 163 countries. Each of the eight pillars is based on data series that have the strongest statistical relationships to levels of internal peacefulness.

Positive Peace is not a panacea, but it does represent a comprehensive framework that addresses complex challenges. It is a useful tool for understanding societies and addressing the most significant drivers of peace. In addition, it provides a measurable basis for shocks. While the Peace Index can help to improve economic and governance developments, it is not the only way to achieve peace.

Another positive aspect of the Peace Index is that it can be used as a nudge toward higher levels of peacefulness. Countries that have increased their Positive Peace scores have consistently outperformed comparable countries in real GDP growth. Additionally, those with a high Positive Peace score have seen fewer total hours worked, compared to those with a low score.

World peace can be secured by enforcing international law, upholding humanitarian law, and avoiding aggressive war. But it can also be achieved by ensuring an equitable distribution of resources, which ensures an equal distribution of opportunities and similar outcomes for all individuals. Similarly, the United Nations must be respected by all nations.

Despite the decline in global peace, the Positive Peace Index has shown that most of the world's population has not been negatively affected by the recent wave of violence. In fact, the Positive Peace Index indicates that countries that have a higher level of peacefulness have had more resilient economies during the pandemic.

A major factor in the increase in violent demonstrations around the world is intolerance. This is a key driver of the low rate of intercultural dialogue. Many of the demonstrations are tying directly to racial injustice or divisive political discourses.
